MEET THE MISSIONARIES
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892), the renowned "Prince of Preachers," was not a traditional overseas missionary but passionately supported global missions from his London pulpit. Converted at 15, he pastored the Metropolitan Tabernacle for 38 years, training hundreds of pastors through his Pastors' College, many sent as missionaries worldwide. He promoted tools like the Wordless Book for cross-cultural evangelism, prayed for and commissioned workers to fields like Africa and China, and influenced figures such as David Livingstone. His massive ministry fueled evangelism at home and abroad.

Jackie Pullinger, born in 1944 in London, felt called to missionary work as a child. After studying at the Royal College of Music, she obeyed a divine prompting and arrived in Hong Kong in 1966 with little money. She taught music in the infamous Kowloon Walled City, reaching drug addicts, gang members, and the marginalized. Through prayer and the power of Jesus, many experienced miraculous deliverance from addiction. In 1981, she founded the St Stephen's Society, a rehab ministry that has transformed thousands of lives for Christ over decades.

Hudson Taylor (1832–1905) was a pioneering British Protestant missionary to China. William Carey (1761–1834), known as the Father of Modern Missions, was an English Baptist shoemaker-turned-pastor and missionary pioneer. In 1792, he co-founded the Baptist Missionary Society after publishing his influential Enquiry and preaching “Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.” He served in India from 1793 for 41 years without furlough, translating the Bible into Bengali and other languages, co-founding Serampore College, and advancing education and printing.

AMY CARMICHAEL
Amy Carmichael (1867–1951), an Irish Protestant missionary known as "Amma" (Mother), was born in Northern Ireland. Called to missions after Keswick Conventions, she briefly served in Japan (1893–94), then arrived in South India in 1895. She founded the Dohnavur Fellowship (1901/1925–27), rescuing and caring for hundreds of children—especially girls from temple dedication—through an orphanage and mission community. She served 55+ years without furlough, wrote influential books like If, and remained in Dohnavur until her death.

JONATHAN EDWARDS
Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758), American Congregationalist theologian and revivalist, was born in East Windsor, Connecticut. A Yale graduate, he pastored in Northampton, Massachusetts (1727–1750), leading revivals during the Great Awakening with his famous sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” After dismissal, he served as missionary to Native Americans in Stockbridge (1751–1758), while writing major works like *Freedom of the Will*. He died shortly after becoming president of the College of New Jersey (Princeton)

ELIZABETH ELLIOT
Elisabeth Elliot (1926–2015), American Christian missionary, author, and speaker, was born to missionary parents in Belgium. She met and married Jim Elliot at Wheaton College; he was killed in 1956 by Waorani tribesmen in Ecuador during outreach efforts. With her young daughter, she courageously lived among the same tribe for two years to continue the mission. C.T. Studd (Charles Thomas Studd, 1860–1931), renowned English cricketer and **Christian missionary**, was born into wealth. Converted young, he renounced fame and fortune after his brother's illness. As part of the famous **Cambridge Seven**, he joined Hudson Taylor's China Inland Mission in 1885. He gave away his inheritance to missions, served in China (1885–1894), briefly in India, then pioneered in the Belgian Congo from 1913, founding the Heart of Africa Mission (later Worldwide Evangelization Crusade, now WEC International). Known for bold faith and sacrifice, he died in Africa after 18 years there.

GEORGE WHITFIELD
George Whitefield (1714–1770), English Anglican clergyman and renowned evangelist, was a key founder of Methodism and the evangelical movement. Born in Gloucester, he experienced conversion at Oxford, joined the Wesleys, and preached dynamically. He served as missionary to Georgia in 1738, then made multiple transatlantic trips (crossing 13 times), igniting the Great Awakening through open-air sermons to massive crowds across Britain and American colonies. Preaching ~18,000 sermons on the "new birth," he died in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

CHARLES WESLEY
Charles Wesley (1707–1788), English Anglican cleric, poet, and hymn writer, was a principal leader of the Methodist movement alongside his brother John. Born in Epworth, he co-founded the Holy Club at Oxford. Ordained in 1735, he served briefly as missionary and chaplain in colonial Georgia (1735–1736), returning disillusioned. After his 1738 conversion experience, he became an eloquent evangelist and prolific hymnist, authoring thousands of hymns like “Hark!
